The Fine Arts Department at W. J. Mouat Secondary is comprised of three different programs: Art, Drama, and Music. The courses offered in each program cover a range of topics. The Fine Arts Department provides a fundamental component for all degree programs by providing general education requirements and senior courses that are more defined.

Art--Students study study studio art, art history, and theories and methods of art. Inherent in art history content are values important for the cultivated person. Art is an integral part of life. Students explore the interaction of artists, their art, and society.
Drama--Students in drama courses will emphasize active communication through articulation of ideas and performance. Students will find that by taking a well balanced course load in drama useful in developing creative problem solving and curriculum integration skills.
Music--Students explore music through practical and theoretical viewpoints. Although each course in the music curriculum integrates components of both, applied music courses emphasize building confidence via hands-on investigation of instrumental music and practical music skills. Music theory and appreciation courses, on the other hand, emphasize critical thinking and listening skills. An important component of the music curriculum is an exploration of aural and written traditions of cultures around the world.
