W.J. Mouat's English Department offers a variety of courses for all students at all levels. From English 9 to Literature 12, the courses our students take will aid them not only to develop strong reading, writing and speaking skills, but also to develop important critical thinking skills that will benefit them in future endeavors.
English as a Second Language (ESL) students will be initially assessed to determine their language levels. Further testing will take place as required. This assessment will determine the English, Communications, or ESL course a student is programmed into.

ESL programmed students who wish to take any English or Communications course must write an assessment test which will be evaluated by the ESL and English Departments.The students will be programmed into English or Communications courses with a minimum grade of 60% on this test AND the recommendations of the ESL and English Departments.

All recommendations and decisions will be made on an individual basis to ensure the best programming for students to be successful at their assessed levels.
